Manchester United in talks to sign David Raum

Manchester United are locked in negotiations with TSG Hoffenheim over the signing of David Raum.

Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg has offered an update on the future of David Raum. The TSG Hoffenheim starlet has become a hot prospect in the market with multiple clubs vying for his services. Manchester United are among the clubs keeping close tabs on the defender, with the Premier League giants already in talks with Hoffenheim.

Plettenberg suggests the two parties are locked in negotiations over the sale of Raum. The entire operation could be worth around €30-35 million and there is a possibility the deal can be struck between the two parties.

Currently regarded as one of the left-backs in the Bundesliga, Raum has enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence over the past couple of years. He initially attracted the onlookers during the 2020/21 campaign, helping Greuther Furth win promotion to the Bundesliga with 15 assists in the second division.

Raum earned a move to Hoffenheim last summer, and he did not disappoint in the top-flight either. He racked up 13 assists and even became a regular fixture in the German national team. His rapid ascension has put Manchester United on red alert, with Borussia Dortmund also involved in the chase.

With Luke Shaw and Alex Tellas far from convincing, it appears new Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is looking to add a fresh option in the left-back unit. David Raum fits the bill perfectly as the German international offers the offensive output and his crossing prowess could be extremely useful, especially with Cristiano Ronaldo lurking inside the box.

In addition to his crossing, Raum is a technically astute full-back who can rotate possession as well. He is also an excellent athlete and recover ground quickly, making him an ideal coup for Manchester United.

However, even though Manchester United are currently locked in negotiations with Hoffenheim, Dortmund could potentially return in contention to sign the German, if they find a way to offload Nico Schulz and Raphael Guerreiro in the summer.

With two months still remaining before the new season gets underway, Raum’s transfer saga is far from over and there is a lot yet to come over the coming weeks.
