Inter Milan are reportedly ready to offer Stefan de Vrij in the deal to sign Gabriel Magalhaes, although Arsenal are expected to be uninterested in such a move.

According to Calciomercatoweb, Inter Milan are considering offering Stefan de Vrij to Arsenal in exchange for Gabriel Magalhaes in the summer transfer window. The Gunners are unlikely to entertain such an offer, as Mikel Arteta values the defender and his position in the current squad.

Gabriel Magalhaes had a wonderful 2021/22 season with Arsenal, scoring five goals in the Premier League. He was the division’s highest-scoring centre-back during the campaign, and Mikel Arteta values his contributions and considers him one of Arsenal’s key players.

Gabriel’s performances have led to widespread interest that began with Juventus circling the Brazilian defender. PSG have become the latest club to show an interest in the Arsenal centre-back, as the Parisians consider him an alternative to Milan Skriniar.

As things stand, Arsenal are stepping up their efforts to sign Lisandro Martinez from Ajax, although the Argentine’s pursuit is expected to have no bearings on Gabriel’s future. Arteta considers the  his first-choice centre-back alongside Ben White and will do everything he can to keep the 24-year-old at the Emirates.

However, there is an interesting battle brewing in Italy as Inter Milan are involved in some important transfer deals. Amid financial restrictions, the Nerazzurri are not flush with cash and are looking to offload a few players to funds summer moves.

Inter are weighing up selling one of their defenders and could listen to offers for Skriniar or Stefan de Vrij this summer. They already have Gleison Bremer in their sights as a replacement, but the Brazilian has other big suitors following his situation.

While Bremer remains their top target, if Inter cannot agree on a deal for the Brazilian, they could look at alternatives. Arsenal’s Gabriel is currently on the Serie A club’s radar, and they could offer de Vrij in exchange for the Brazilian.

The report claims that Inter value the veteran Dutch international at €20 million and mentions that Gabriel may carry a price tag of €35-40 million. However, from Arteta’s standpoint, there is no chance Arsenal could agree to allow their key defender to depart, which puts Inter’s planned move in jeopardy.

Even if Arsenal decide to sell, they will demand quite a high sum which would be significantly more than the €35-40 million mentioned in the report. Inter may have to target other players, although their priority would be to bring Bremer to San Siro.
