Barcelona have reportedly no interest in re-signing Rafinha Alcantara from Ligue 1 champions PSG in the summer transfer window.

According to Mundo Deportivo journalist Gabriel Sans, Barcelona are not considering a summer move for former midfielder Rafinha Alcantara contrary to recent speculations in the rumour mill.

Rafinha is a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy. But the 29-year-old could never establish a foothold in the first-team setup at Camp Nou. He made 88 appearances for the Blaugrana, scoring 12 goals and setting up eight more. And after loan spells away at Inter Milan and Celta Vigo, he joined Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2020.

Rafinha’s move to Parc des Princes has failed to take off as intended, as the Brazilian international has struggled for game-time at the French capital outfit. To date, the versatile midfielder has made just 39 appearances for PSG, registering seven assists in the process.

Rafinha spent the second half of the 2021/22 campaign on loan at Real Sociedad and made a decent impression, finishing with a goal in 20 appearances in all competitions. Set to return to Paris now, the 29-year-old has no future at the club, as the Ligue 1 champions are looking to strengthen their midfield and are interested in Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips, among others.

Amidst the uncertainty surrounding his future in France, reports claimed that Barcelona were considering the possibility of re-signing Rafinha in the summer transfer window.

Barcelona are in the market for reinforcements in midfield and on the flanks. Given their financial situation, they cannot afford to splash huge amounts to bring in new players. Rafinha, given his ability to play in the centre of the park and on the right flank, coupled with his know-how of the club, seemed to have emerged as a possible target this summer.

However, as reported by Gabriel Sans, Barcelona do not have any plans to re-sign Rafinha as things stand. The Brazilian midfielder’s camp has also confirmed that there has been no contact from the Blaugrana, and it is unlikely that a move will take place in the future. So, there will be no return to Camp Nou for Rafinha anytime soon, with Barcelona focusing their efforts on other targets such as Robert Lewandowski.
