Liverpool are reportedly on the verge of securing the deal to sign Aberdeen youngster Calvin Ramsay this summer.

Although the summer transfer window has just barely begun, Liverpool’s activity in the market may have already come to an end, as the Premier League giants close in on the capture of Calvin Ramsay. This has been reported by The Times, who suggest the club have reached a £4 million agreement with Aberdeen for the Scottish teenage sensation.

Liverpool are expected to pay a further £2.5 million through performance-related add-ons. They have readied a five-year contract for Ramsay, although the youngster is unlikely to complete his medical at Anfield before the weekend.

A right-back by trade, Ramsay is regarded as one of the most gifted players to come out of the Aberdeen youth academy. Since being promoted to the senior side last summer, the Scottish teenage sensation has already racked up 39 competitive appearances for the club.

His tally of one goal and nine assists have been indicative of Ramsay’s qualities going forward. The 18-year-old is indeed a technically adept full-back who is capable of providing width out wide and whipping in crosses into the box, if necessary.

Such quality could make him an excellent deputy for Trent Alexander-Arnold in the coming season, especially when he joins in a deal worth just £4 million. Liverpool have lacked a quality backup for the English international in recent years, and the young Scotsman is expected to resolve the issue, especially with Neco Williams subjected to a move away from Anfield.

Given the stature of Alexander-Arnold, Ramsay could certainly find game-time hard to come by. But Jurgen Klopp has shown the temerity to hand young players the opportunity to perform at the highest level in the past, and there is no reason why he won’t follow the same mantra with the youngster from Aberdeen.

The report from The Times speculates Ramsay could be Liverpool’s final signing ahead of the new season. The Reds have recently made headlines with their capture of Darwin Nunez from Benfica, while Fabio Carvalho arrived from Fulham earlier in the summer.

Liverpool are not expected to make any other moves in the market, although they are certainly expected to offload a few players. Sadio Mane, for one, looks all set to join Bayern Munich as he looks to start the new chapter of his career after a fruitful spell at Anfield.
