Leeds United have reportedly lodged an offer worth €20 million to sign French striker Arnaud Kalimuendo from PSG this summer.
According to a report by The Independent, Arnaud Kalimuendo is the subject of interest from Leeds United over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Whites have submitted a bid worth €20 million for the French striker, with Paris Saint-Germain likely to make additional demands to sell the youngster.
Arnaud Kalimuendo started his youth career at FC Saint-Cloud before joining Paris Saint-Germain as a ten-year-old in 2012. The 20-year-old rapidly progressed through the ranks in PSG’s academy before making his first-team debut in September 2020. But the youngster’s breakthrough as a professional footballer came during his two loan spells with RC Lens from 2020 to 2022.
The French striker was one of the top scorers in Ligue 1 this past season, scoring 12 goals in 34 league outings for Lens. Kalimuendo has returned to PSG following the season’s completion but will likely embark on a new adventure in the summer transfer window. The French under-21 international does not have a shortage of suitors either, with Leeds United joining the race to sign him.
The interest from Leeds United comes in the wake of their relegation-battling 2021/22 campaign where they had to wait until the final day to secure their Premier League status. Patrick Bamford’s injury-riddled campaign was one of the sources of the Whites’ struggles, with goals coming at a premium.
Raphinha was the only consistent performer for Leeds this past season. And with the Brazilian international determined to join Barcelona this summer, Leeds will need to make multiple reinforcements in the offensive department to ensure they do not fall into the relegation battle again next term.
The Whites have been very active in the market ahead of the summer transfer window, reaching agreements to sign Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen. Marco Roca will likely be Leeds’s third summer signing, with the Spaniard’s arrival from Bayern Munich imminent. Leeds’s next move could be for Kalimuendo, with the West Yorkshire club submitting a €20 million offer.
While PSG will likely accept the €20 million bid, they might demand the insertion of additional clauses, one of which will probably give them the option to buy Kalimuendo back in future. It will be interesting to see if Leeds and PSG can successfully negotiate a €20 million deal for the French striker.
