Real Madrid ready to loan out Miguel Gutierrez

Real Madrid are reportedly prepared to send academy graduate Miguel Gutierrez on loan in the summer transfer window.

According to Spanish publication MARCA, Real Madrid are ready to loan out 20-year-old defensive prospect Miguel Gutierrez for the upcoming season for him to get regular game-time and continue his development.

Gutierrez is a product of the Real Madrid youth academy and has been on the club’s books for more than a decade, having signed from Getafe in 2011. The young left-back made his first-team debut for Los Blancos in April last year under then-manager Zinedine Zidane and featured six times in total during the 2020/21 campaign, even registering an assist.

Gutierrez was expected to get a bigger role in the 2021/22 season after Carlo Ancelotti took over the reins. However, the Italian tactician hardly used the young full-back. Instead, he placed his faith in Ferland Mendy, Marcelo and Nacho Fernandez.

It restricted Gutierrez to just four senior appearances in the entirety of the last season, even though he impressed heavily for the Real Madrid Castilla side, bagging two goals and eight assists from 16 matches.

With Marcelo departing Real Madrid this summer, there is a spot now open in the left-back position. On top of that, there have been speculations that the Spanish and European champions are also ready to part ways with Mendy, having slapped a €50 million valuation on the French international.

But, as per the MARCA report, that is not the case, as Ancelotti and Real Madrid are perfectly happy with Mendy and are keen to retain him on the roster beyond the summer. While a replacement for Marcelo would have been sought, the signing of Antonio Rudiger has freed up David Alaba to be deployed at left-back. Furthermore, Nacho continues to remain an option.

As a result, Real Madrid have decided to cool down their pursuit of Fran Garcia while also considering the future of Gutierrez. The 20-year-old is seen as a top prospect, but the club understand that it is important for him to play regularly to develop and fulfil his potential. As a result, Los Merengues are now ready to let the young left-back depart on loan to help him get minutes under his belt.

It seems to be the right choice for all parties involved as Real Madrid have enough depth at left-back, and Gutierrez would benefit from playing regularly elsewhere.
