Manchester United have been reportedly told to pay €40 million to sign Dutch right-back Denzel Dumfries from Serie A giants Inter Milan.
According to Calciomercato, Manchester United are interested in signing Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries, but the Nerazzurri have slapped a €40 million price tag on the Dutchman. There are other unnamed Premier League clubs interested in the defender as well, with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich keeping tabs as well.
Dumfries joined Inter just last season from PSV Eindhoven as a replacement for Achraf Hakimi, who was sold to Paris Saint-Germain. The 26-year-old slotted into the right wing-back position immediately and had quite a fruitful season with the Serie A giants.
The Dutch defender, a target for Manchester United and Bayern Munich, played 45 matches across all competitions for Simone Inzaghi’s side, scoring five goals while providing seven assists. Dumfries settled in well at Milan, but as per the report, he could be on a move this summer.
Inter are desperate to offload some of their first-choice players this summer to balance their books. A few of their players have been linked with potential exits from the Serie A club, while Ivan Perisic has already joined Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer.
Both their first-choice centre-backs Alessandro Bastoni and Milan Skriniar are being courted by multiple clubs, whereas striker Lautaro Martinez is also on the radar of a few European giants. Dumfries is another player who they could offload this summer for major profit, having signed him for €12.5 million just last summer.
Manchester United, meanwhile, are set to begin a new era under manager Erik ten Hag, who is eager to add reinforcements in multiple positions. Right-back is one such area where the Dutchman would like to sign a sure-shot starter, with both Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot failing to impress in the recently-concluded season.
While Dalot looks set to stay at Old Trafford, Manchester United have offered Wan-Bissaka to a few clubs. The English defender joined Manchester United from Crystal Palace in 2019 but lost form after a solid first season with the club and has since struggled to maintain consistency in his performances. Dumfries would be a brilliant replacement for Wan-Bissaka, especially for €40 million
