Reports in Italy insist Donny van de Beek could be a target for AS Roma after the player was reportedly ‘offered’ to the Giallorossi.

According to Corriere della Sera, via Sport Witness, Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek has been ‘offered’ to AS Roma ahead of the summer transfer window. The report suggests the Dutchman could be eyed by Jose Mourinho’s side, despite recent stories insisting Erik ten Hag is keen on including him in his plans.

Donny van de Beek is yet to make his mark since making a high-profile move to Manchester United from AFC Ajax in the summer of 2020. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer never managed to get the best out of the Dutchman in his debut season, and the trend continued into the 2021/22 campaign as well.

Fans and pundits felt Solskjaer was the problem as Van de Beek cut a frustrated figure on the sidelines during games. However, Ralf Rangnick, who replaced the Norwegian on an interim basis, did not put his faith in the Dutchman either.

After much speculation, van de Beek joined Everton on loan in January and, much to everyone’s surprise, never really got going at the Merseyside club, apart from a few positive displays here and there. The Toffees are not expected to sign the midfielder permanently and he will be back at Manchester United this summer.

New Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag reportedly wants to keep van de Beek in his plans for next season and try to get the best out of the player who was a star under him at Ajax.

Manchester United are also vying for Frenkie de Jong, who was van de Beek’s midfield partner at Ajax and the manager might be planning to reunite the Dutch duo at Old Trafford to get the best out of both of them.

However, the aforementioned report insists van de Beek has been ‘offered’ to Roma and he could join up with former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho at Stadio Olimpico. The Italian side are looking into the market for reinforcements in midfield after Henrikh Mkhitaryan decided to leave and could look to make a move for the 25-year-old Dutchman if the terms are within their scope.

Roma are already close to signing Nemanja Matic from Manchester United. However, from how things look, van de Beek may end up remaining at Manchester United for the foreseeable future and try to revive his career under the tutelage of Ten Hag.
