Liverpool agree deal to sign Calvin Ramsay

Liverpool are reportedly close to making a breakthrough in their pursuit of Aberdeen whizkid Calvin Ramsay.

According to a report from Football Insider, Liverpool are closing in on the capture of Calvin Ramsay. They are close to reaching an agreement with Aberdeen over the transfer of the young fullback, with the Premier League giants expected to fork out a fee of around £4 million.

The two clubs are currently discussing the final payment structure and upon completion, the player will be given the green light to head to Merseyside and finish his medical at Anfield. The move could be officiated within the coming days, making Ramsay Liverpool’s second signing ahead of the new season.

The Reds had earlier confirmed the capture of Fulham starlet Fabio Carvalho, and Ramsay could soon join the list. The 18-year-old does not offer much experience at the highest level of football, but the youngster did make his professional breakthrough this past season.

A right-back by trade, Ramsay racked up five assists in 22 league matches, emerging as one of the rising stars in the Scottish Premiership. His performances have not gone unnoticed, with Liverpool now on the verge of sealing his signature, beating off competition from league rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.

Ramsay’s prospects of regular game-time might be gravely affected at Anfield as he is set to serve as a deputy for Trent Alexander-Arnold. He could thus replace Neco Williams, who could end up joining Fulham on a permanent deal, with the Reds looking for a fee of around £12 million.

Although Alexander-Arnold is considered one of the best right-backs in the Premier League, Ramsay has certainly shown the talent in the Premiership and has the ability to give the Englishman a run for his money.

Jurgen Klopp does have an excellent record of nurturing young players. And given the strenuous nature of the English footballing schedule, he should not find too many difficulties giving Ramsay the occasional opportunities to prove his mettle at the highest level of football.

Meanwhile, Liverpool could be on the verge of another breakthrough in the market as they have reportedly agreed terms with SL Benfica over the signing of Darwin Nunez. If everything goes according to the plan, the Uruguayan international could become the club’s third signing of the new season, after Carvalho and Ramsay.
