Barcelona prospect Arnau Comas has reportedly turned down a two-year contract from the club amid interest from teams in Spain and abroad.

According to SPORT, Barcelona are on the verge of losing defensive prospect Arnau Comas in the upcoming transfer window on a Bosman deal as his contract stands to expire at the end of June. The 22-year-old centre-half has rejected a proposal for an extension from the Catalans and seems poised to move on.

Comas has spent more than a decade at Barcelona, having joined the club’s famed La Masia academy at a very young age. The Spanish centre-back has progressed steadily through the ranks and has demonstrated great potential in his youth career. He spent the 2019/20 campaign away on loan at UE Olot before becoming a regular for Barcelona’s B team.

Comas has made 55 appearances for the Catalans’ B team, scoring two goals in the process. The 22-year-old captained the team in the 2021/22 campaign and featured 29 times in all competitions before a shoulder injury saw him miss the final phase of the season. Despite his promise, the young defender is yet to make his senior debut for Barcelona.

Comas’ current contract with the Blaugrana expires at the end of next month. Barcelona are keen on keeping the defender around and had tabled a two-year contract proposal for him to sign.

However, as per the report, Comas has decided to turn down the offer from his boyhood club. The decision from the youngster stems from the lack of assurances over a promotion to the Barcelona first team. The new deal offered to him would have seen the Spaniard continue as part of the B team setup rather than move up to Xavi Hernandez’s senior squad.

Comas was left disappointed by the prospect of playing with the B team for another year. And as a result, he has decided to move on in the summer in search of a club where he can be a part of the first team.

The report adds that Comas has offers from clubs within Spain and abroad, and it will be interesting to see where the 22-year-old ends up come summer. But his time at Barcelona seems to be coming to an end. Comas might not be the only youngster the Catalans lose, with Adam Aznou set to leave the club for Bayern Munich.
