West Ham United and Everton are reportedly both interested in getting Burnley winger Maxwel Cornet on board.

The Telegraph report that West Ham United are interested in a summer move for Burnley winger Maxwel Cornet, with Everton also keeping tabs on the Ivory Coast international. Cornet seems set for an exit following Burnley’s relegation to the Championship.

The 25-year-old joined the Clarets in a £13 million move from Olympique Lyon in the 2021 summer transfer window. Cornet was one of the few positives for Burnley, who suffered relegation after finishing 18th in the Premier League table following a final-day defeat to Newcastle United.

He scored nine goals and provided two assists in 28 appearances for the club across competitions. The winger’s output for the English side has made other clubs take notice and Burnley’s drop is only going to make things easier for interested parties.

Cornet reportedly has a relegation release clause in his contract which can be triggered for just £17.5 million this summer. Burnley expect him to leave in the upcoming transfer window, along with a few other stars, as they prepare for a season in the Championship.

The drop would hurt them financially but they can build up their transfer chest by selling some of the top names on the side. James Tarkowski and Nick Pope have been linked with respective exits as well, with both attracting interests from Premier League clubs.

As far as West Ham are concerned, David Moyes is eager to add attacking reinforcements to the side this summer with Michail Antonio the only recognised striker in the side. While Cornet is mainly a winger, he was also used as a centre-forward this season, which could benefit the Hammers should they complete his signing.

Another relegated star, Watford’s Emmanuel Dennis, is on their radar as well. The Hammers are expected to add at least one attacker to the side before the new season commences.

Everton, on the other hand, are monitoring Cornet, who is contracted with Burnley until 2025, to make a move if one of their forwards leaves this summer. With both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison being linked with exits, the Toffees will need attacking reinforcements, making Cornet a viable target for Frank Lampard’s side due to his availability for a reasonable fee.

Cornet has proven himself in the Premier League in his debut season, while his versatile nature would make him an asset for any side that signs him.
