Leeds United are reportedly keeping tabs on RB Leipzig midfielder Tyler Adams, who is rated highly by Jesse Marsch.

As quoted by Tribal Football, Fabrizio Romano has offered an interesting update on Leeds United’s plans to sign Tyler Adams. The Italian transfer expert claims the Premier League outfit are keeping close tabs on the 23-year-old RB Leipzig midfielder, who is a favourite of coach Jesse Marsch.

Leeds and Leipzig have not begun their negotiations over a potential move for Adams, but the former are well placed to make an offer, should the demand arise. Adams and Marsch know each other well, and the operation should not be all too difficult, at least from the player’s perspective.

“His relationship with Marsch is great. There are no negotiations between the two clubs at the moment, but we know that the relationship is great and it could be a really interesting opportunity,” said Romano on the situation.

The Italian believes Leeds United’s pursuit of Tyler Adams could depend on the future of Kalvin Phillips. “Leeds need to understand what they want to do with Kalvin Phillips because he’s on the list of many top clubs,” he added.

Phillips is indeed a wanted figure in the transfer market. The Leeds United talisman remains a top target for clubs such as Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, while the likes of Aston Villa and Manchester United are involved in the chase as well.

A holding midfielder by trade, Adams could likely be considered by Marsch as a direct replacement for Phillips, in the event of the Englishman’s potential exit from Leeds. The two are not similar in terms of style of play, but Adams offers the grit and the work rate that makes him an effective ball-winner in the middle of the park.

The 23-year-old American international has also played the majority of his professional career under the leadership of Marsch, who had given him his breakthrough at the New York Red Bulls. The two could reunite again at Elland Road next season, should Leeds United end up cashing in on Phillips.

RB Leipzig, for their part, should sanction the exit of Adams, as the American’s role in the first team has dwindled following the appointment of Domenico Tedesco. The midfielder’s exit could go a long way in helping the Bundesliga giants keep hold of the other star midfielder in Konrad Laimer, a top target for Manchester United.

Leeds United, meanwhile, are soon expected to close out a deal with Leipzig’s sister club Red Bull Salzburg, over the signing of Brenden Aaronson, in the coming days. The American international is set to become the club’s first signing under Marsch, and the Leeds United boss will be aiming Adams follows suit later this summer.
