Premier League giants Chelsea are reportedly preparing an offer to sign Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, a target for Newcastle United.
As per Tuttosport, Chelsea are preparing to pay up to €20 million for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, who is also being courted by Newcastle United.
Chelsea are currently waiting for their new owners to take over to start their transfer business for the summer, and Rabiot is one of the first names on their list. The Frenchman has been with the Bianconeri for three seasons now and has been a regular despite the managerial changes.
In all, he has made 129 appearances for the Serie A giants, scoring six times and assisting as many goals across competitions. But Rabiot has just a year remaining on his contract, and Juventus could prefer cashing in on him rather than risk losing him on a free deal next summer.
Chelsea have emerged as potential suitors and are themselves looking set for a massive summer overhaul. But the Blues, who could offer up to €20 million for Rabiot, may have to fend off interest from Newcastle United, who have identified the 27-year-old as a possible summer signing.
The Magpies are set to begin a new era under new owners and are preparing for an all-important summer transfer window that could help them return to the upper echelons of the English top flight. Manager Eddie Howe has done a commendable job to rescue Newcastle from a spot of bother when he took over in November.
Newcastle were without a win when the former Bournemouth boss took over. He guided his side to safety, ultimately seeing out an 11th-placed finish in the Premier League. The Magpies would want to further improve on that position come next season.
As far as Chelsea are concerned, there could be wholesale departures from the club this summer with as many as four defenders seemingly on their way out of the club. Antonio Rudiger has reportedly agreed on personal terms with Real Madrid, while Andreas Christensen is set to join Barcelona this summer.
Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso have also been linked with summer exits whereas Chelsea vice-captain Jorginho’s future is under the scanner as well. There could be departures from the forward line as well with Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech all being linked with possible exits.
But Jorginho’s exit could specifically prompt Chelsea to beat Newcastle to Rabiot’s signature, although it remains to be seen if an offer of up to €20 million does the trick for the west Londoners in the summer transfer window.
