FC Porto are reportedly considering the prospect of re-signing Brazilian left-back Alex Telles from Manchester United in the summer.

According to Portuguese publication Correio de Manha, as relayed by Sport Witness, Manchester United left-back Alex Telles has emerged as a transfer target for former club FC Porto heading into the summer window.

Telles arrived at Manchester United from FC Porto in the summer of 2020. The 29-year-old’s arrival had a positive impact on the squad as, in addition to performing well, the Brazilian also helped Luke Shaw up his game during the 2020/21 campaign. However, like much of the Manchester United squad, Telles endured a sub-par season this time out.

Telles featured 26 times across all competitions for Manchester United in 2021/22, managing a return of one goal and four assists. His performances ranged from good to ordinary over the course of the campaign, and with a new manager coming in at Old Trafford now, the 29-year-old could find himself staring at the exit doors.

Indeed, Manchester United will see Erik ten Hag take over the reins this summer, with the Dutchman already conducting his first official press conference as the new manager. And, with the 52-year-old at the helm, a lot of restructuring in the squad could take place before next season.

Manchester United have been credited with a strong interest in Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia heading into the summer. It could see one of Telles or Shaw, who himself was disappointing in 2021/22, leave in the coming weeks.

And, it seems like FC Porto have been alerted to the possibility of re-signing Telles should he be made available for a transfer. The 29-year-old spent four years with the Portuguese heavyweights after arriving from Galatasaray in 2016 and enjoyed a hugely successful stint at Estadio do Dragao.

Telles racked up 195 appearances for Porto, registering a tally of 26 goals and 57 assists. And the newly-crowned Portuguese champions would be open to bringing the Manchester United defender back, especially as manager Sergio Conceicao is keen on adding a set-piece specialist to his roster this summer.

Telles has two years left on his current contract with Manchester United, with the club retaining the option of extending it by a further twelve months. A clearer picture regarding his future at Old Trafford should emerge in the coming weeks as ten Hag looks to build a team in his own image.
