Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign Inter Milan forward Ivan Perisic, who is also a target for Chelsea and Newcastle United.
According to a report from ESPN, the race to sign Ivan Perisic is hotting up with new clubs joining the fray. Although Inter Milan are determined to keep hold of the player by offering a contract extension, Perisic is more than likely to leave the club at the end of the season, on a free transfer.
Juventus are believed to be the frontrunners in the pursuit of the Croatian veteran. But Tottenham have recently joined the race, whereas fellow Premier League clubs Chelsea and Newcastle United are also in contention to sign the former Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund attacker.
Perisic had played under the tutelage of the Spurs coach Antonio Conte last season, during their time together at Inter. He was quite an asset for the Nerazzurri on the left hand side, slotting in effortlessly in Conte’s 3-5-2 formation. With four goals and five assists, his contributions on the far side were critical in helping Inter break Juventus’ hegemony in Italian football.
Conte is hoping to repeat the success at Tottenham by roping in Perisic in the summer. The Tottenham manager is not happy with Sergio Reguilon and wants to offload the Spaniard at the end of the season. He believes Perisic could be a like-for-like replacement, as he values the Croat’s experience and versatility out wide.
The Lilywhites, though, are facing stiff competition from Premier League rivals in their pursuit of Perisic. Chelsea, for one, have entertained the prospect of signing the veteran, as a potential replacement for Marcos Alonso, amid speculations linking the Spaniard to a move to Barcelona.
Newcastle United have been involved in the equation as well. The Magpies are looking to upgrade their ranks on the left flank and are reportedly preparing a €6.5 million per year contract for Perisic.
The veteran Croatian is yet to make a decision on his future, but reports suggest he is likely to put an end to his career at Inter Milan. And with the likes of Juventus, Tottenham and Chelsea vying for his services, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 33-year-old this summer.
