Jules Kounde has agreed personal terms with Chelsea, as the Blues wait on matters related to their takeover before finalising a move for the Frenchman.

According to Andreas Korssund, Chelsea are closing in on signing Jules Kounde from Sevilla, and the transfer could conclude as soon as the club’s takeover is completed. The 23-year-old French international has reportedly agreed to personal terms and only wants to join the Premier League giants.

Chelsea have been chasing Jules Kounde for the best part of twelve months. Thomas Tuchel was frustrated last summer as the transfer could not materialise. After the current season ends, the Blues will have problems in their central defensive arsenal, one the Chelsea manager would like to solve in the transfer window.

Antonio Rudiger is leaving for Real Madrid, while Andreas Christensen has an agreement with Barcelona. Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso are also on the Catalan giants’ radar, and they could be allowed to Chelsea in the summer.

It leaves a big gap in Chelsea’s defensive unit, as Tuchel is left with the inexperienced duo Trevoh Chalobah and Malang Sarr in central defence along with the ageing Thiago Silva. The Chelsea manager wants high profile options ahead of next season, but all transfer activities are affected by the Blues’ takeover issues.

The takeover may conclude in the coming weeks, and after that, Chelsea could finalise a move for Kounde. Chelsea have reportedly agreed personal terms with the 23-year-old French international, something Andreas Korssund has confirmed.

He has also revealed that Kounde is only interested in joining Chelsea amid interest from Barcelona. Moreover, the Blues are willing to pay Sevilla’s asking price. Tuchel will be glad about the development, as the transfer fee was the stumbling block last summer.

Kounde could fit in perfectly at Chelsea and should slot straight into Tuchel’s plans for next season. He represents a solid option in defence, one that would offset the loss of Rudiger, who has been their leader at the back.

Chelsea may not end their defensive problems by signing the Frenchman, as at least another top quality centre-back would be needed to see out a long season. Moreover, Tuchel is used to playing multiple combinations in the back-three, although Kounde could become one of the constants in his defence.
