Tottenham make an offer to Yannick Carrasco

Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur have made an approach for Atletico Madrid star Yannick Carrasco.

According to the infamous Spanish outlet El Chiringuito, Tottenham Hotspur have made the first move in their quest to sign Yannick Ferreira Carrasco. It appears the Premier League giants have submitted an offer to the Atletico Madrid forward as they seek his services at the end of the season.

Carrasco is a man in demand this summer following his consistent performances in La Liga over the years. Barring a brief detour in the Chinese Super League, the winger has been extremely successful in the Spanish capital, racking up 218 competitive appearances, scoring 17 goals while mustering 39 assists.

His contributions in the final third were critical in helping Atletico Madrid land the league title last season as well as the UEFA Europa League back in 2018. During his time at the club, he has established himself as one of the more reliable attacking outlets for Diego Simeone’s men.

What makes him such a sought-after prospect in the market, however, is his versatility. A left-winger by trade, Carrasco has the tactical nous to operate as a wing-back.

It makes him an excellent target for Antonio Conte, who considers wing-backs as vital elements in his tactical setup. Unfortunately for him, his current left-back Sergio Reguilon has been quite inconsistent, prompting the Italian to give the green light for his sale at the end of the season.

In an attempt to replace the Spaniard, Tottenham have targeted a multitude of left-backs including Alex Moreno. But in Carrasco, Conte could find himself a player who is almost natural to that role and can offer the attacking impetus in the final third, thus aiding the likes of Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski.

Luring the 28-year-old away from Atletico Madrid, though, could be a tricky task. Los Colchoneros consider Carrasco vital to their setup and will not be too keen on giving up easily on him. Although the exact nature of the offer from Tottenham to Carrasco is undisclosed, Atleti are unlikely to entertain offers below the €40 million mark, given the quality of the player.
