PSG step up interest in Liverpool, Manchester United target Antony

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly set to give Liverpool and Manchester United a run for their money in the race to sign Antony.

According to But! Football Club, Paris Saint-Germain are looking to step up their efforts in their pursuit of Antony. With Kylian Mbappe’s future up in the air, the French champions are determined to sign a top-quality attacker, with the Ajax starlet emerging as the ideal option.

The PSG board has held talks with Antony’s entourage on multiple occasions, exploring the possibility of a move to Parc des Princes at the end of the season. PSG, though, are set to face stiff competition from Premier League clubs, with Manchester United and Liverpool also reportedly involved in the chase.

Formerly of Sao Paulo, Antony has been one of the rising stars in Brazilian football since his move to Ajax. In just 79 competitive appearances for the club, the winger has been involved in 42 goals, impressing the onlookers with his dynamism, pace and ability to drift past defenders at ease.

The 22-year-old’s flair has made him an appealing target for a club like PSG, who are currently on the lookout for a top-quality attacker. The Parisian juggernaut are facing the risk of losing Kylian Mbappe, who is tipped to join Real Madrid at the end of the season after seeing out his contract at Parc des Princes.

In addition to Mbappe, PSG are also likely to lose Angel Di Maria while the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum and Julian Draxler are facing an uncertain future at the club. It has prompted PSG to look for a new attacker, and that is where Antony comes into the fray.

Liverpool, too, are dealing with a similar situation. The Reds are facing a battle to keep hold of Sadio Mane amid interest from PSG and Bayern Munich. Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool future remains unresolved as well, with the Egyptian’s current deal expiring at the end of next season.

However, the report suggests PSG and Liverpool’s efforts to sign Antony could lead to a dead-end, as it is Manchester United who are the undisputed favourite to sign the Brazilian. The player, after all, has an excellent relationship with incoming Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, with the Dutchman eyeing a reunion at Old Trafford next season.

Manchester United are targeting Antony as a direct replacement for Marcus Rashford amid speculations linking the Englishman to a move away from Old Trafford. Antony can also prove to be a replacement for Mason Greenwood, owing to his indefinite suspension earlier this year, thus helping Manchester United fill a massive void in the offensive department while beating Liverpool and PSG to his signature.
