Barcelona and Valencia reportedly held discussions over a possible move for Goncalo Guedes, although there is no concrete interest at the moment.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona held discussions with La Liga rivals Valencia over the possible acquisition of Portuguese forward Goncalo Guedes. However, at this point, the 25-year-old is not a priority target for the Catalans.

Guedes has been with Valencia since 2017 when he arrived on loan from PSG. The versatile forward, who can play through the centre or out on the flanks, has not exactly flourished as expected at the Mestalla, but his stock remains high due to the potential and innate quality he possesses.

Guedes has had a fairly decent 2021/22 campaign for a misfiring Valencia side, producing a return of 13 goals and six assists from 41 appearances across all competitions. With his contract set to expire at the end of the next season, there have been speculations over his future as Valencia look to get out of a difficult financial situation.

Los Che officials Anil Murthy and Joey Lim met with Barcelona president Joan Laporta earlier this week in Catalonia. During the meeting, Valencia offered Barça the chance to sign Carlos Soler and Jose Gaya for a combined sum of €60 million. Despite holding a strong interest in the pair, Barcelona reportedly turned down the opportunity, as they hope to sign the duo for a lower fee.

As per the report above, during the same meeting, Valencia and Barcelona also discussed the possibility of a transfer for Guedes in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Barcelona are yet to resolve the contract situation of Ousmane Dembele, who continues to be linked with several clubs, including Chelsea. And with the futures of Memphis Depay, Martin Braithwaite and Adama Traore also away from Camp Nou, there could be room for another versatile forward to join the roster in the summer, provided Barcelona have somewhat recovered from their financial crisis.

Guedes, to that end, can be a viable option, owing to his age, versatility and proven pedigree in La Liga. However, any move for the Portuguese international would cost Barcelona at least €40 million, as per the report. It is also stated that while the two clubs discussed the 25-year-old, he is not exactly a priority target for the Catalan giants but another name on the list that they might look at if finances improve.
