Tottenham Hotspur are working on a deal to sign Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat amid competition from Inter Milan.

According to Foot Mercato, Sofyan Amrabat could be a subject to a move away from Fiorentina this summer. Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with the player’s entourage, exploring the possibility of a move to north London at the end of the season. Amrabat himself is open to leaving Fiorentina in favour of a move elsewhere.

Tottenham are not alone in the pursuit of the Fiorentina midfielder, who is also courted by Inter Milan. But with the Premier League giants already initiating talks with his agents, the Serie A champions may have some ground to make up if they are to catch up in the pursuit.

Tottenham were linked with a move for Amrabat during the January transfer window. They were even close to signing the midfielder, but the move broke down owing to Tanguy Ndombele’s loan move to Olympique Lyon being completed very late in the window.

However, Tottenham remain interested in Amrabat and could launch a move in the coming summer, when they are expected to offload Ndombele among seven others including midfielders Harry Winks and Giovani Lo Celso, thus creating a vacuum in the centre of the park.

Antonio Conte believes Sofyan Amrabat could be an excellent solution to this problem. A defensive midfield by trade, the Fiorentina star has been a consistent performer in the Serie A over the past couple of years, impressing the onlookers with his passing range and ball distribution.

At Spurs, Amrabat could become an ideal competitor for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur. It should offer some much-needed depth in the number six slot, although the Moroccan international, who was on excellent form in the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, can also operate in a slightly advanced role.

With 87 appearances in Serie A and 34 caps for Morocco, Amrabat does bring considerable experience at the highest level of football. He isn’t expected to cost a fortune either, despite the 25-year-old midfielder having two years remaining on his current contract at Fiorentina.

Tottenham have explored another option in the market in the form of Konrad Laimer, but with the RB Leipzig star being courted by other top clubs across Europe, Amrabat appears to be a more gettable target for Tottenham as they brace themselves for a busy summer head.
