Real Madrid forward Luka Jovic on Bayern Munich radar

Bayern Munich could reportedly pursue a move for Real Madrid outcast Luka Jovic if Robert Lewandowski calls it quits at the Allianz Arena.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Luka Jovic has popped up on the radar of Bayern Munich over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Real Madrid outcast has emerged as a surprise target to replace Robert Lewandowski, with the Pole linked with Barcelona.

Luka Jovic has endured a nightmare of a spell since joining Real Madrid from Eintracht Frankfurt in July 2019. The Serb has been unlucky that his arrival coincided with Karim Benzema’s most productive and influential years at Real Madrid. As a result, the player has been a peripheral figure for Los Blancos.

Jovic has turned out 49 times for Real Madrid while managing a paltry tally of three goals and four assists. With the 24-year-old’s career headed nowhere at the Santiago Bernabeu, leaving Real Madrid will be a step in the right direction. And the Real Madrid outcast could be set to return to the Bundesliga, with Bayern Munich emerging as a surprising suitor.

The interest from Bayern Munich stems from the rampant uncertainties surrounding the future of Robert Lewandowski. The Bavarian giants have been adamant that the Polish striker will stay put at the Allianz Arena beyond the summer transfer window amid interest from Barcelona.

But Lewandowski’s delicate contract situation means one cannot rule out a summer departure, as his deal runs out next year. As a result, Bayern Munich will need to remain vigilant in the market, with several candidates popping up on their radar over a summer move. And Real Madrid outcast Luka Jovic has emerged as surprising a target for the Bundesliga champions.

Considering his struggles at Real Madrid, it is hard to see how Jovic will fill Lewandowski’s void at the Allianz Arena. But the Serbian international is rated higher in Bundesliga, where he wants to return, despite struggling to carve a place for himself in the Real Madrid first-team setup.

The 24-year-old has also been linked with Arsenal and Everton, with several Serie A clubs also showing interest in him. It will be interesting to see if Bayern Munich will firm up their interest in the Real Madrid outcast or if he joins another club when he departs from the Santiago Bernabeu.
