Erik ten Hag reportedly wants to bring Ajax striker Sebastian Haller to Manchester United with him this summer.
According to The Sun, Erik ten Hag could raid former side Ajax this summer to solve Manchester United’s attacking woes. The Dutch tactician is targeting former West Ham United forward Sebastian Haller, who has been in scintillating form for Ajax this season.
Erik ten Hag’s impending arrival at Manchester United could coincide with a summer overhaul as the Red Devils aim to improve in multiple positions. Signing a forward is high on United’s priority list and they have been linked with a host of players across Europe with Haller’s name being the latest in the long list.
Haller, who joined Ajax in a £20 million move from West Ham in the 2021 winter transfer window, has been highly impressive for ten Hag’s side this season. The 27-year-old averages over a goal contribution per match. He has scored 33 and assisted nine goals in 39 appearances for the Dutch giants across competitions.
With the striker impressing under Manchester United’s future manager, it is but natural that links of a possible move are coming up. But Haller’s previous Premier League record could deter the English giants from making a possible move.
After joining West Ham from Frankfurt for a £42 million move in 2019, the Ivory Coast international failed to make any impact. He scored 10 goals in 48 Premier League appearances across one-and-a-half seasons, with the Hammers selling him for a huge loss.
Haller has been scoring freely over in the Netherlands, however. In 62 matches for Ajax, Haller has scored 46 and assisted 16 goals. It’s the result of this form that he is being linked with the likes of Manchester United.
The Red Devils are set to lose the likes of Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard in the summer, and are thus eager to add a proven No. 9 to the squad. With ten Hag having worked with Haller, he could bring out the best from the striker. But the 27-year-old leading the Manchester United attack when the club are going through their toughest phase in the post-Ferguson era is highly unlikely.
