Lautaro Martinez favours joining Liverpool or Manchester City

Lautaro Martinez is reportedly willing to leave Inter Milan only for a headline club like Manchester City or Liverpool, where trophies are guaranteed.

According to Tutto Mercato Web, Lautaro Martinez only wants to move to a big club where trophies are guaranteed, those being Manchester City and Liverpool, among others. The Argentine forward has rejected the advances of Atletico Madrid and Arsenal and remains open to joining their rivals, including Barcelona and Real Madrid, who could offer him success.

Lautaro Martinez was heavily linked with a move away from Inter Milan when the Serie A giants were in financial distress. The Nerazzurri were open to selling him if a massive offer came their way, irrespective of what happened with strike partner Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian eventually joined Chelsea in a deal close to £100 million.

After backlash from Inter fans, the club decided against selling any more of their star players, thus keeping Martinez within their ranks. By the end of October, Martinez signed a new five-year deal to prolong his stay at San Siro, although it was more to protect and increase his current value.

Inter are open to selling the Argentine international if their demands of around €80 million are met. There are plenty of clubs vying for Martinez’s signature, with Arsenal and Atletico Madrid reportedly enquiring about his price tag.

Martinez will not force through a move, but he might be open to new adventures, provided the club he joins next comes with a big reputation, instead of outfits like Arsenal and Atletico Madrid. The Argentine forward wants a team that guarantees trophies, such as Manchester City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona or Liverpool, with the Reds somewhat interested in securing his services.

Barcelona have also shown interest the Arsenal forward, as Xavi Hernandez may eye a new striker in the summer transfer window. Despite only signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January, the Blaugrana could look to bring in a long-term option, and the 24-year-old Arsenal target seems like a fit.

However, his chances of joining Manchester City are definitely slim, considering the Premier League giants are inching closer to securing Erling Haaland’s signature. The Borussia Dortmund star will be an expensive acquisition, meaning spending another €80 million on an additional striker seems out of the question.

While he has no interest in signing for either Arsenal or Atletico Madrid, the other options are limited. Liverpool may need to sign a new leading striker, although the Merseysiders will be wary of paying Inter Milan’s asking price, and the same goes for Barcelona.

Even Real Madrid may not opt to sign Martinez, as they want Kylian Mbappe from PSG. The Argentine will have to lower his expectations or remain at Inter Milan for the foreseeable future, considering none of the clubs he desires may have the vacancy to accommodate the Argentine on their side. As for Arsenal, the Gunners will need to set sights on alternate options heading into the summer.
