Real Madrid are reportedly keeping tabs on the progress of Palmeiras wonderkid Luis Guilherme, who is being dubbed as the ‘new Rivaldo’.

According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid have set their sights on Brazilian teenage prodigy Luis Guilherme, who is coming through the youth ranks at Palmeiras and has been likened to Selecao legend Rivaldo.

Luis Guilherme has been with the Palmeiras youth setup for five years now after the Brazilian outfit picked up the young prodigy from a school in Sergipe, his home state. The attacking midfielder, who turned 16 in February earlier this year, is regarded as one of the crown jewels of the academy and is tipped for a bright future.

Guilherme was part of the Palmeiras youth team that won the Copinha tournament earlier this year. A certain 15-year-old prodigy named Endrick, who is also very much on Real Madrid’s radar, dominated the headlines during that triumph. But, Guilherme, too, was a key component of the team.

Guilherme has continued to make waves in youth football, having starred with Brazil’s Under-17 team at the Montaigu Tournament in France. The 16-year-old attacking midfielder impressed for Brazil, along with Endrick, helping the team win the competition for the first time since 1984.

Luis Guilherme, who was donning the No. 10 jersey during the tournament, finished with three goals, including one in the finals over Argentina. His progress with the Palmeiras and Brazil youth teams has seemingly put him on the radars of Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants have been focusing on bolstering their youth ranks as club president Florentino Perez is keen on building the next line of superstars for the first team from within the academy. It has seen them recruit aggressively for La Fabrica and the Castilla team in recent windows.

Real Madrid recently beat arch-rivals Barcelona to the capture of goalkeeping prodigy Ferran Quetglas and are scouring the market within Spain and outside for the brightest young prospects. While Endrick is already a transfer target for Los Blancos, they are now pondering making a move for his teammate Luis Guilherme.

The attacking midfielder, who is drawing comparisons to Barcelona legend Rivaldo, is believed to be close to signing his professional contract with Palmeiras, having turned 16 a couple of months ago. The deal is expected to be three years long but should not hinder Real Madrid from keeping track of Guilherme before they decide whether to make a play for his signing.
