Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City handed chance to sign Kalidou Koulibaly

Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester City will reportedly have the chance to sign Kalidou Koulibaly from Serie A giants Napoli in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Serie A giants Napoli might look to cash in on Kalidou Koulibaly in the summer transfer window. Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester City have thus been handed the chance to secure the services of the 30-year-old defender.

Kalidou Koulibaly has come leaps and bounds since joining Napoli from KRC Genk in July 2014. The Senegalese international has established himself as one of the best defenders in Serie A over the last eight years while also enjoying success at the international level earlier this year at the Africa Cup of Nations.

To date, the 30-year-old has turned out 310 times for Napoli, chipping in with 13 goals and seven assists in the process. But despite being an asset for the Partenopei, Koulibaly could depart from the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in the summer. The Serie A giants have offered Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester City the chance to land the experienced defender.

Barcelona will enter the market for a centre-back in the summer transfer window, with Clement Lenglet, Samuel Umtiti, and Oscar Mingueza surplus to requirements at Camp Nou. And while Andreas Christensen is expected to join Barcelona in a Bosman move, the Blaugrana might need to sign another central defender, with Koulibaly emerging as a viable target.

As for Real Madrid, the Merengues will invest in a centre-back ahead of the 2022/23 season because Jesus Vallejo has no future at the Santiago Bernabeu. And with Nacho only a backup option at best, Koulibaly could arrive as a potential competitor for Eder Militao and David Alaba.

Meanwhile, it is hard to see how the 30-year-old will fit in at Manchester City. While Ruben Dias is the undisputed first-choice centre-back at the Etihad, Aymeric Laporte, John Stones, and Nathan Ake have also performed admirably this term, ridding Pep Guardiola of the need for a centre-back.

Nonetheless, it looks like Koulibaly could leave Napoli in the summer transfer window, even though recent reports had claimed that the Serie A giants were slapping an unrealistic price tag on him to keep hold of him. But it will be interesting to see if the 30-year-old Senegalese defender ends his stint in Serie A in the summer.
