Liverpool have joined the race to sign Brentford playmaker Christian Eriksen amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

According to Fichajes, the race to sign Christian Eriksen this summer is set to get even more interesting as Liverpool have emerged as the latest club to express the desire to sign the playmaker. The Dane currently plies his trade at Brentford, having joined the club in January, but many expect him to join a bigger club at the end of the season.

Eriksen has been primarily linked with a return to former club Tottenham Hotspur, although clubs such as Crystal Palace and Aston Villa have been involved in the equation as well. But Liverpool’s entry in the chase could make things much more interesting, as the Reds are widely considered one of the strongest teams in Europe.

Since his return to the Premier League in January, Eriksen has featured in six matches, scoring one goal while bagging two assists. He was notably involved in the win over Chelsea, as he impressed the onlookers by turning back the clock and offering exquisite creative support in the final third.

Eriksen has certainly been able to rediscover his mojo in the Premier League, and it certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed, with even Liverpool keen on incorporating him as part of their squad next season.

The Reds have been in imperious form this year. But there is a dearth of quality depth in the team, especially in the creative department. The likes of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have not been able to fulfil their potential, thus accentuating the need for a new number ten this summer.

Liverpool are expected to bring in Fulham starlet Fabio Carvalho next season, but the Portuguese youngster barely has any experience at the highest level of football. That is where Eriksen comes into the fray, as the Danish international has experience of playing over 300 matches for Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Inter Milan star is a seasoned campaigner in the English top-flight, notably bagging 23 assists in the 2016/17 season while reaching the Champions League final in 2019. The 30-year-old could thus become an ideal target for a Liverpool side to add more quality and creativity to the midfield department.

However, Tottenham remain the firm favourite due to the strong relationship between the player and the club. Eriksen, after all, had spent six and a half years in north London and is likely to jump at the opportunity to reunite with Antonio Conte, who had coached him during their time together at Inter Milan.
