Tottenham battle Arsenal, West Ham for Luka Jovic

Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham United are reportedly in a transfer tussle to sign Real Madrid outcast Luka Jovic in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Luka Jovic is on the verge of ending his frustrating stint with Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. The out-of-favour Serbian striker is on the radars of a trio of London giants – Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United.

Luka Jovic joined Real Madrid from Eintracht Frankfurt in July 2019 amid a lot of expectations and hype surrounding him. The 24-year-old was coming off a memorable 2018/19 campaign in the Bundesliga, but he has failed to make an impression at the Santiago Bernabeu over the last three years.

The Serbian striker has endured a difficult 2021/22 campaign, as he has garnered only 473 minutes of game-time across 17 appearances, managing a tally of one goal and two assists. With the player’s career headed nowhere, a summer departure from the Santiago Bernabeu is necessary. And a trio of London clubs in Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United are prepared to offer him an escape route from Real Madrid.

The interest from Arsenal stems from the rampant uncertainties surrounding the futures of Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah. While Nketiah is almost certain to leave Arsenal, the Gunners are still hopeful about retaining Lacazette beyond the summer transfer window. But with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leaving the Emirates in the winter, Jovic becomes a viable target.

As for Tottenham, there is very little quality beyond Harry Kane, who continues to face an uncertain future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. But even if Kane stays put at the north London club, Jovic could be an option worth considering for Spurs to add more options for Antonio Conte.

Meanwhile, the Real Madrid outcast could be the long-sought solution in the striker’s department at West Ham. Michail Antonio is the only recognised centre-forward at David Moyes’s disposal, and the Hammers have been scouring the market for a replacement for Sebastien Haller for over a year. Interestingly, Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah is also on West Ham’s radar, with Jovic a viable target.
