Premier League giants Manchester United are reportedly preparing a summer bid for Leeds United and England midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have identified Kalvin Phillips as one of the midfielders to pursue in preparation for the impending departure of French midfielder Paul Pogba. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner’s contract with the Red Devils outfit runs out in the summer transfer window, and he is expected to leave on a Bosman move.

Kalvin Phillips has emerged as a potential option for Manchester United, who are ready to make an official approach to Leeds for the midfielder’s signature. The 26-year-old recently returned to first-team action for Leeds after missing four months due to a hamstring injury.

The Leeds United academy product is the kind of defensive midfielder that Manchester United fans have been on the crying out for for quite some time. Industrious, combative and adept at high-pressing, Phillips seems a good option for the Red Devils to add to their roster ahead of the 2022/23 season.

The 26-year-old started all seven matches for England at UEFA Euro 2020, where the Three Lions reached the final, only to lose to Italy on penalties. Phillips will have four years remaining on his contract after the current season. But if reports are to be believed, the Whites are eager to tie him down to a longer contract as rumours of a possible Manchester United move emerge.

Phillips is not the only midfielder Manchester United have set their sights on. Wolverhampton Wanderers star Ruben Neves is also on their wishlist. Reports have claimed that current Ajax manager Erik ten Hag, who looks set to take over as full-time Manchester United manager, is a big admirer of the Portuguese international and wants the club to sign him up this summer.

West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice has also been linked with Manchester United. The Premier League giants have previously shown interest in Rice as well, but the Hammers have been reluctant to let him go. However, this summer, it looks like the London-based club could cash in on the England international with Manchester United one of his possible destinations.

As for Phillips, with Manchester United preparing an offer to snap him up in the summer transfer window, it will be interesting to see how Leeds United will response to receiving a bid. The English international is sure to be a hot property ahead of the 2022/23 season.
