Ambitious Aston Villa are reportedly in touch with Brighton star Yves Bissouma ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to Football Insider, Premier League side Aston Villa are in contact with Brighton & Hove Albion star Yves Bissouma ahead of the 2022 summer transfer window.

The Seagulls ace has made a name for himself as one of the best midfielders in the English top flight. He continues to perform at an elite level for Graham Potter’s side and has attracted attention from several top sides.

Bissouma moved to the Amex Stadium from LOSC Lille in 2018 and has since proven to be a sensational capture. The 25-year-old is currently entering his prime and has already amassed 118 appearances for Brighton, scoring five goals and assisting two more.

A defensive midfielder, he is adept at intercepting passes and winning the ball back. The Malian is also an excellent tackler and is not afraid to get stuck in when needed. This all combat style is perfectly suited for him to thrive in the English top flight.

Villa have been admirers of the midfielder for some time now and even made an effort to land him in the 2022 January transfer window. However, it came to nought and their £20 million-plus bid was rejected. It has failed to deter the Midlands side as they look to make a renewed approach for the player in the summer.

The 25-year-old is Villa’s top transfer target for the summer and they have asked his representatives to keep them updated regarding developments. With the Mali international’s contract at Brighton expiring in 2023, Villa are aware that they hold the aces when it comes to negotiations.

Steven Gerrard’s arrival has elevated the club’s league position and ambitions. The latter was reflected in their January transfer dealings where several top players made the move to Villa Park. One position that needs strengthening is the midfield and at least one central midfielder is on the agenda.

Gerrard appears to have the backing of his club’s board and could have as much as £150 million to shell out on new signings. Landing Bissouma will give him that midfield enforcer needed to anchor the defence, amid question marks over Douglas Luiz’s future, permitting the more offensive players to flood forward. Adding the 25-year-old’s acumen to John McGinn’s energy could prove decisive, especially against the top sides.
