Ajax defender Noussair Mazraoui is reportedly poised to join Bayern Munich instead of Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
According to reputed Italian journalist Marco Conterio, Barcelona’s hopes of securing the services of Noussair Mazraoui on a Bosman move in the summer transfer window have been handed a big blow. The Ajax defender is set to join Bayern Munich, with the two parties on the verge of reaching an agreement.
Noussair Mazraoui has become one of the hottest properties in the market, heading into the summer transfer window on the back of nearly two seasons of excellent performances for Ajax. The Moroccan international has become a pivotal figure for club and country, with his performances attracting several high profile clubs across Europe.
The 24-year-old has enjoyed a solid 2021/22 campaign, chipping in with five goals and four assists in 32 appearances across all competitions. But Mazraoui’s stint with Ajax will end in the summer transfer window, and the prospect of signing him on a Bosman move has captured the attention of Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
Barcelona could invest in a right-back in the summer transfer window despite Sergino Dest’s much-improved performances. But if Dest, coincidentally a target for Bayern Munich, leaves Barcelona, Dani Alves will be the only right-back at Xavi Hernandez’s disposal, considering Seri Roberto faces an uncertain future at Camp Nou amid his expiring contract.
Mazraoui is thus a viable target for Barcelona, with recent reports even claiming that the player is keen on joining the Blaugrana. But with Bayern Munich looming on the horizon, Barcelona had to move quickly to secure the services of the Ajax defender on a Bosman move.
Recent reports had claimed that the Bundesliga champions were hopeful of beating Barcelona to the 24-year-old’s signature. It now looks like the confidence was for a good reason, with Mazraoui on the verge of agreeing to join Bayern Munich after leaving Ajax as a free agent in the summer transfer window.
According to Marco Conterio, the agreement between Mazraoui and Bayern Munich is one step away. Barcelona will thus need to set sights on an alternative, although it might work out for the best, especially with Sergino Dest starting to show signs that he is cut out to excel in Xavi’s setup.
