Real Madrid will need to fend off stiff competition from Serie A giants AC Milan and Inter Milan to sign 21-year-old Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Serie A heavyweights AC Milan and Inter Milan are interested in signing Enzo Fernandez from River Plate in the summer transfer window. The 21-year-old River Plate midfielder is also a target for Real Madrid.
Enzo Fernandez spent his formative years with River Plate after joining the Argentine giants in 2006 from Club La Recova. And after spending over a decade in the club’s youth setup, the player broke into the first-team squad nearly three years ago. Following a decent loan spell with Defensa y Justicia, the Argentine ace finally established a foothold at River Plate last season.
The 21-year-old has started the 2022 season strongly, chipping in with two goals and two assists in nine appearances across all competitions. Fernandez’s exploits for River Plate have not gone unnoticed, with some of the most high profile clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid, AC Milan, and Inter Milan, setting their sights on him.
The interest from Real Madrid stems from the rampant uncertainties surrounding the long-term futures of Dani Ceballos and Isco. The two Spaniards will depart from the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer transfer window, prompting Real Madrid to invest in a central midfielder, especially with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos approaching the final phases of their glittering careers.
As for AC Milan, Franck Kessie’s impending move to Barcelona will leave a gaping hole in their midfield unit. The Rossoneri will thus need to delve into the market for a midfield reinforcement in the summer transfer window, making Enzo Fernandez a viable target.
Meanwhile, Inter Milan will need to replace Matias Vecino and Stefano Sensi in their midfield department, with the duo likely to depart from San Siro in the summer transfer window. To that end, the defending Serie A champions have turned their attention towards Enzo Fernandez.
Apart from Real Madrid and two Serie A giants, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United are also keen on signing the 21-year-old Argentine midfielder. So, with the race to sign Enzo Fernandez heating up, it will be interesting to see if he will leave River Plate in the summer.
