Chelsea and Real Madrid are reportedly showing interest in Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar.
According to Interlive.it, defending European champions Chelsea and current La Liga leaders Real Madrid are two among a host of clubs monitoring Milan Skriniar’s situation at Inter Milan. The two sides are keen to add defensive reinforcements and have identified the Slovakian as a possible signing this summer.
The centre-back impressed for Sampdoria in the 2016/17 season, prompting Inter Milan to sign him for a €34 million fee. And he has more than repaid that amount, cementing his spot in the Inter starting line-up from his debut season.
He formed an integral part of Antonio Conte’s Serie A-winning Inter squad that broke Juventus’ nine-year streak. Though the Italian tactician left following the league triumph, the Slovakian stayed put and has continued to churn out one solid performance after another this term. Skriniar was colossal for the Nerazzurri in their recent 1-0 league win over the Bianconeri.
The centre-back is attracting interest from Europe’s best in Chelsea and Real Madrid with such consistent performances. Both clubs are looking for a central defender and could move in for the Slovakian this summer.
Los Blancos just have Eder Miliato, David Alaba, Nacho Fernandez and Jesus Vallejo as their centre-back options. They are still looking for a long-term replacement for Sergio Ramos and 27-year-old Skriniar fits the bill. With Vallejo expected to depart in the summer, adding another defender would maintain squad depth for Real Madrid.
Chelsea, on the other hand, are preparing for the possible departures of two of their first-choice centre-backs. Both Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger have their contracts expiring after the current season and will need to be replaced if they leave. Thiago Silva is not here for long either and Chelsea will have to look for a suitable replacement for him, with Skriniar emerging as an option.
The report claims that along with the two aforementioned clubs, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have also shown interest. With a host of clubs interested and Inter planning to extend his contract, Skriniar has a big decision to make this summer. After this season, the defender will have just one year remaining on his current deal. It will be interesting to see if he continues in Italy or decides to move.
