Real Madrid unwilling to pay €15 million per year to Serge Gnabry

La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid reportedly have no intention to offer a €15 million-a-year deal to Bayern Munich forward Serge Gnabry.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Serge Gnabry is demanding a contract worth €15 million per year to commit his long-term future to Bayern Munich. But while the Bavarian giants are hesitant to offer such a deal, Real Madrid will not pay such terms to the 26-year-old forward either.

Serge Gnabry has established himself as one of the best players in the Bundesliga since joining Bayern Munich nearly half a decade ago. A key figure for club and country, the German international has progressed considerably in the last few years.

The 26-year-old has enjoyed a solid 2021/22 campaign, amassing 13 goals and nine assists in 36 appearances across all competitions. But Bayern Munich will be scrambling to keep hold of Gnabry beyond the summer transfer window, with his contract having a little over a year left to run out. Such a situation has captured the attention of Real Madrid.

The interest from Real Madrid could have stemmed from the rising uncertainties surrounding the futures of Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio. While Kylian Mbappe is touted to replace the soon-to-be free agent Gareth Bale, Hazard could leave Real Madrid after becoming a peripheral figure under Carlo Ancelotti.

As for Asensio, the Spanish international has a little over a year left on his contract, much like Gnabry, and could leave Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. With the Spaniard currently assessing his long-term future, the Merengues are being forced to consider options to replace him, with Gnabry emerging as a viable target.

Recent reports have indicated that there are “loose contacts” between Real Madrid and the Bayern Munich forward, with David Alaba pushing Los Blancos to sign his former teammate at the Allianz Arena. But a stumbling block has emerged between Real Madrid and the German international, who is demanding €15 million per year to commit his long-term future to Bayern Munich.

While the Bundesliga champions are hesitant to offer such sums, Real Madrid will unlikely table a contract worth €15 million per year either. So it will be interesting to see if Gnabry lowers his demands and whether Bayern Munich can keep hold of the 26-year-old.
