Inter Milan are open to bringing Romelu Lukaku back to the club, albeit on a loan deal, as the Belgian reportedly is angling for a departure from Chelsea.

According to Calciomercato, Inter Milan are eyeing a loan deal for Romelu Lukaku as the Chelsea striker struggles in the Premier League. The Belgian is reportedly keen on returning to Serie A, although the operation could be very complicated.

Chelsea were heralded as firm title challengers after their capture of Romelu Lukaku. The London club decided to bring back their former star by paying nearly £100 million, as Inter Milan sold him due to financial problems.

Lukaku began life back in the Premier League in top form, scoring in his first few games. Since then, his performances have tailed off, as the striker has managed just five league goals throughout the season. His displays up front have become a major topic of discussion as Chelsea bowed out of the title race between December and January.

Moreover, Lukaku stirred up a controversy after giving an interview to Sky Italy. He criticised the manager and mentioned he would love to return to Inter Milan if presented with an opportunity. Considering the money Chelsea paid for him, it was hard to envisage a return back then, although times are changing in the transfer market.

Lukaku is reportedly keen on leaving Chelsea in the summer, although any deal would be complicated considering the finances involved. A few clubs could be interested if he becomes available, although it would be difficult for Chelsea to sell the player, due to his high wages.

Lukaku is reportedly willing to take a pay cut to join Inter Milan, who have now emerged as contenders for the Belgian. The San Siro outfit would like the striker back in their ranks and are exploring a loan deal in the summer window.

The Nerazzurri are firmly in the title chase, although their failures in European football may prompt them to change their forward line. Lukaku’s replacement Edin Dzeko has been good all season, although he has not properly filled the Belgian’s boots.

Moreover, there are suggestions that Lautaro Martinez could depart the club, with Premier League sides eyeing the Argentine forward. Lukaku could be the ideal replacement for the striker, should he end up leaving in the summer.

While a move is tricky, Inter are likely to explore the possibilities of bringing Lukaku back, albeit on loan. The Belgian might welcome a move and it will be up to Chelsea to decide whether they wish to persist with their record signing or move him on in the summer.
