PSG will reportedly provide stiff competition to Barcelona in the race to sign 22-year-old Brazilian international Antony in the summer transfer window.
According to an exclusive report by Le 10 Sport, Antony is the subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The 22-year-old Ajax forward is also a target for Barcelona ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Antony has taken no time to establish himself as one of the most eye-catching wide-attackers in Europe. The Brazilian international joined Ajax nearly two years ago from Sao Paulo and is now a key figure for club and country. While he has filled the void left by Hakim Ziyech’s departure to Chelsea at Ajax, he has become an important squad member for Brazil.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a solid 2021/22 campaign thus far, amassing 12 goals and ten assists in 33 appearances across all competitions. But the Dutch giants appear set to lose Antony in the summer transfer window, as he is becoming a hot property in the market ahead of the summer transfer window. Barcelona and PSG could be two of his prospective suitors.
Barcelona will delve into the market for a wide-attacker in the summer transfer window, as Ousmane Dembele’s long-term future is yet to be resolved. In addition, Adama Traore might not rejoin Barcelona permanently, as the Catalan giants are prioritising other players for the right-wing berth.
Antony is thus a viable target for Barcelona, although recent reports have claimed that he might not move to Camp Nou, with the Blaugrana prioritising a move for Raphinha instead. If Barcelona’s pursuit of the 22-year-old is indeed put on the shelf, PSG will likely have a clearer run at him.
Les Parisiens are in a spot of bother over Kylian Mbappe’s future, with the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner edging closer towards joining Real Madrid on a Bosman move. And Antony is an ideal option for PSG to pursue, with the Brazilian international being an excellent long-term solution out wide.
According to the report, the Ligue 1 heavyweights have taken steps to initiate talks with Antony and his representatives. But Bayern Munich could rival PSG in pursuit of the 22-year-old Brazilian international, even if Barcelona’s interest in him wanes heading into the summer transfer window.
