Real Madrid offered chance to sign Owen Wijndal

La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid have reportedly been offered the chance to sign 22-year-old Dutch international Owen Wijndal in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Owen Wijndal could soon be on his way to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. Mino Raiola has offered the 22-year-old Dutch international to the Merengues, projecting him as a long-term successor for Marcelo.

Owen Wijndal has enjoyed a swift rise to stardom since breaking into the first-team setup at AZ Alkmaar a few years ago. The player has been with De Kaasboeren for over a decade and has evolved into a modern-day full-back since then, even becoming the club captain at the onset of the ongoing campaign following Teun Koopmeiners’s departure last summer.

The 22-year-old Dutch international has enjoyed a solid 2021/22 season thus far, amassing one goal and ten assists in 36 appearances across all competitions. And Wijndal might be the next AZ Alkmaar captain to seek greener pastures, with Mino Raiola offering him to Real Madrid over a possible move in the summer transfer window.

Real Madrid could delve into the market for a left-back in the summer transfer window, as Marcelo will end his legendary stint with Los Blancos when the ongoing season ends. While his next destination is unknown, the Real Madrid captain has been linked with several clubs outside Europe, including Inter Miami.

Marcelo’s departure will leave Ferland Mendy and Miguel Gutierrez as the only natural left-backs at Carlo Ancelotti’s disposal. But both players face uncertain futures at the Santiago Bernabeu, meaning Real Madrid will need to sign a left-back.

To that end, several players have emerged on Real Madrid’s radar, with Kieran Tierney becoming a key target for Los Blancos. But it might not be surprising to see Real Madrid set sights on Wijndal instead, considering the Dutch international’s career trajectory.

With the 22-year-old showing promising signs in recent seasons, he could fit like a glove at the Santiago Bernabeu. And Wijndal could also be an appealing target because he might cost around €10 million, making him a cost-effective solution in what could be an expensive summer transfer window for Real Madrid.
