Tottenham Hotspur are ready to offload Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to AS Roma if the Giallorossi can cough up €40 million this summer.

A recent report from Gazzetta Dello Sport, as relayed by Spurs-Web, has offered an update on the future of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. It is believed that the Tottenham midfielder is facing an uncertain future in north London, with the club reportedly open to offloading him in the summer transfer window.

Hojbjerg has emerged as a target for AS Roma, in particular, with Jose Mourinho keen on a reunion with the Dane. However, the report suggests Roma will have to shell out a figure of around €40 million if they are to get their hands on Hojbjerg next season.

Mourinho was the one to bring Hojbjerg into the Tottenham camp in 2020, signing him in a €16 million move from Southampton. It turned out to be a bargain as the midfielder quickly established himself as the beating heart of the Spurs midfield, making an impression with his work-ethic, aggression and leadership qualities.

Since his move in 2020, Hojbjerg has racked up almost 100 competitive appearances. His performances under new coach Antonio Conte have been mixed, to say the least. But he is starting to recover his form and has built a formidable partnership alongside January signing Rodrigo Bentancur since the turn of the year.

The Dane’s spell at Spurs, though, could soon come to an end, with AS Roma keeping close tabs on his situation in north London. The Giallorossi, after all, are bracing themselves for a difficult summer ahead, with Jordan Veretout likely to leave the club amid interest from Newcastle United, Marseille and Napoli.

There are also question marks over the future of other midfielders, thus prompting Mourinho to enter the market for potential reinforcements. The Portuguese mastermind has been eyeing a move for Conor Gallagher, but the Chelsea starlet could cost a fortune given his performances on loan at Crystal Palace.

While Granit Xhaka is on the radars of Roma, they are also looking at Hojbjerg as an option, with Mourinho eyeing a reunion with his former protege. However, Tottenham will demand a sum of €40 million for the Danish international, which could be a major deterrent for the Giallarossi.

Hojbjerg, meanwhile, might not be the only midfielder leaving Tottenham in the summer. The Lilywhites are expected to offload Harry Winks, who has no future under Conte and could move to Crystal Palace, quite curiously as the potential replacement for the aforementioned Gallagher.
