Bayern Munich keen on signing Sergino Dest

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are reportedly considering a summer move for 21-year-old Barcelona defender Sergino Dest.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Sergino Dest is the subject of interest from Bayern Munich over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Bundesliga champions are keen on signing a right-back ahead of the 2022/23 season, with the 21-year-old Barcelona defender one of the options on their radar.

Sergino Dest joined Barcelona from Ajax in October 2020 and has since endured a topsy turvy ride at Camp Nou. While the youngster has shown promising signs, he is yet to establish himself as the undisputed first-choice right-back for Barcelona.

The 21-year-old has turned out 26 times across all competitions for Barcelona this season, managing just three assists in the process. Ahead of the summer transfer window, Dest’s position at Barcelona is precarious, considering the Catalan giants are looking to sign Noussair Mazraoui on a Bosman move.

Recent reports have claimed that Mazraoui is keen on joining Barcelona, who could also offer Dani Alves a one-year extension. That will leave Dest in a difficult predicament at Barcelona, which is why a summer departure from Camp Nou could be on the cards. Bayern Munich could offer the USMNT international an escape route out of Catalonia.

Bayern Munich will likely enter the market for a right-back in the summer transfer window, as Benjamin Pavard has blown hot and cold while Bouna Sarr is surplus to requirements at the Allianz Arena. Niklas Sule’s impending move to Borussia Dortmund could also prompt Julian Nagelsmann to utilise Pavard as a centre-back at times, necessitating the arrival of a right-back.

Dest has emerged as a viable target for Bayern Munich, with the Bavarian giants also targeting several other full-backs, including Djed Spence. Apart from the Barcelona defender and Spence, Ridle Baku and Jeremie Frimpong are also on Bayern Munich’s radar, although the latter is unlikely to remain a target following his long-term injury.

As for Dest, the 21-year-old defender also has a few other suitors, with AS Roma being the most prominent of the clubs chasing him. In the end, everything will depend on Barcelona’s pursuit of Mazraoui and Alves’s future at Camp Nou. If both scenarios work against him, the youngster could exit the Catalan club, with Bayern Munich a likely destination.
