Chelsea frontman Romelu Lukaku is keen on sealing an exit from Stamford Bridge in favour of a return to Inter Milan.

A recent report from Calciomercato has offered an update on the future of Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian international is believed to have acknowledged that a return to Chelsea was a mistake, and is now increasingly keen on sealing a move back to the San Siro.

The report suggests the striker is even willing to lower his salary in an attempt to force a return to Inter Milan. The Nerazzurri were initially quite up front about the idea of not having the Belgian back at the club. But the report seems to suggest the Serie A champions may entertain the possibility of the move.

Lukaku’s desire to leave Chelsea in the summer comes just a couple of days after the UK Government sanctioned Roman Abramovich, seizing his assets and leaving the club in disarray. The Blues have been effectively barred from signing new players in the market or even selling new tickets.

Chelsea have had further financial restrictions imposed on them, and the club may even go into administration. It could ultimately see them losing a host of star players in the summer, with Antonio Rudiger already holding talks with Juventus, among many other clubs across Europe.

Rudiger may follow other defenders, including Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta, through the Chelsea exit door. It appears Lukaku could join the list as well, as the Belgian looks to get himself out of this mess and resume his career in the Serie A, where he had immense success with Inter Milan.

However, the possibility of a return to the San Siro remains slim as Inter have shifted their transfer policy following last summer’s debacle. They are not in a position to afford someone like Lukaku, even if the player halves his salary. Inter may even offload Lautaro Martinez next summer, amid interest from Liverpool.

Lukaku may still seal an exit from Chelsea in the summer as the Belgian has emerged as a potential target for Atletico Madrid. PSG have also been reportedly offered the opportunity to sign the 29-year-old, who may prove to be an ideal replacement for Kylian Mbappe next season.
