Liverpool and Manchester City have reportedly entered the race to sign Torino defender Gleison Bremer, who is also a target for Tottenham Hotspur.
According to Italian publication Tuttosport, Torino’s Brazilian defender Gleison Bremer is a man in demand in the Premier League as Liverpool, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur are all vying to sign him in the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old joined Torino from Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro in the summer of 2018 and quickly established himself as a permanent fixture at the heart of the Granata defence. The towering centre-back has made 102 appearances for the Serie A outfit thus far and has enjoyed a steady rise in reputation, even though Torino have not been at their best in recent seasons.
Bremer was attracting a lot of interest from clubs in Europe last summer, but ended up staying put in Italy and signing an extension until 2024. However, it looks like the Brazilian defender could be on the move in the upcoming transfer window.
The likes of Manchester United, Juventus and Tottenham have already shown an interest in the 24-year-old. Now, Liverpool and Manchester City have also joined the list of interested clubs.
Liverpool have a packed defensive unit currently with Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez, while youngster Rhys Williams is also an option. However, Gomez could be ready to force a move away in the summer in search of regular game-time, creating the need for a new centre-back signing.
The report states that Jurgen Klopp has been monitoring Bremer’s growth for three seasons now and is ready to make a move for the Brazilian. Bremer could be groomed to take over from Matip in a few years given his age.
Manchester City also have a plethora of options in central defence in Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Nathan Ake. However, Ake has barely featured and could find himself looking for a new club before next season, which would open up a spot for a new defender. Pep Guardiola is seemingly looking at Bremer as an option to fill the void.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are following the Brazilian as manager Antonio Conte is believed to be an admirer of his talents and plans to send one of his backroom staff members to watch the defender in action. In addition, the likes of Juventus, Inter Milan and Napoli are all monitoring Bremer as well, which points towards a heated battle for his signing in the summer.
The 24-year-old is understood to be taking English lessons, which could indicate a desire to move to the Premier League. However, it remains to be seen if Liverpool, Manchester City, or Tottenham act on their reported interest in Bremer this summer.
