La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly considering a summer move for 27-year-old Celta Vigo left-back Javi Galan.
According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Javi Galan has emerged on the radar of Barcelona over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants will need to pay around €4 million to sign the 27-year-old left-back from fellow La Liga club Celta Vigo.
Javi Galan spent most of his professional football career as a relatively unknown quantity, but he started becoming a household name in Spain during his two-year stint with SD Huesca. His performances in the 2020/21 season particularly stood out, even though the Aragonese club went down to the second division.
Galan remained in La Liga after joining Celta Vigo last summer following Huesca’s relegation. He has enjoyed a solid campaign, chipping in with two assists in 28 appearances in all competitions. The 27-year-old’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona setting their sights on him over a possible move in the summer transfer window.
Barcelona might need to enter the transfer market for a left-back ahead of the 2022/23 season. That is because Jordi Alba has endured a significant dip in consistency levels in the last couple of years. Even though the veteran left-back produced some excellent performances in February, the Blaugrana will be wary of solely depending on him throughout a season.
With Alejandro Balde yet to settle down despite being projected as a long-term left-back solution, Barcelona’s hand is forced. Jose Gaya is reportedly the priority target for Barcelona heading into the summer transfer window, particularly because he will enter the final year of his contract.
But La Liga rivals Valencia are scrambling to keep hold of their club captain beyond the 2021/22 season, which should prompt Barcelona to have a backup plan. As a result, the Catalan giants have identified several alternatives, with Alex Moreno emerging on their radar. Galan is also a viable target for Barcelona.
Apart from Moreno and Galan, the La Liga heavyweights view Alejandro Grimaldo and Nicolas Tagliafico as potential alternatives. As for the 27-year-old, Barcelona will only need to pay around €4 million to prise him away from fellow La Liga club Celta Vigo, which will surely make him an appealing option.
