Aston Villa have reportedly made Olympique de Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara a priority summer signing.
According to Jeunes Footeux, Boubacar Kamara, who is one of the hottest properties on the transfer market, is set to leave Marseille in the summer transfer window. Aston Villa have now joined a long list of potential suitors.
A Marseille youth product, Kamara was promoted to the club’s first team in 2017 and has since gone on to make 153 appearances for them. The defensive midfielder started his senior career with the club as a centre-back, and it was only in the 2019/20 season that he started being used in midfield.
He has been a permanent fixture in the middle of the park for Marseille over the last two seasons, attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs. The 22-year-old’s contract with the French side runs out in the summer, which has made him a much-wanted entity in the transfer market.
Multiple reports have linked Kamara with the likes of FC Barcelona, Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan, AS Roma, Juventus, Arsenal and Newcastle United. He was reportedly close to an Old Trafford move in the January transfer window, but the club pulled out of the move at the last minute.
The Mail had reported that Marseille were expecting a transfer fee in the region of £10 million. But the Red Devils passed on the chance to sign the 22-year-old. He is thus free to move on a Bosman transfer in the summer.
Barcelona have shown a lot of interest in the defensive midfielder as they are on the lookout for a long-term replacement for captain Sergio Busquets. But they will have to stave off competition from Aston Villa, who have ramped up their efforts to sign the Marseille mainstay.
Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard is believed to be a fan of the Frenchman and could convince him to make the move. The report adds that the Midlands side have made Kamara a priority for the summer and have even made a lucrative contract proposal to lure him to Villa Park.
