Bayern Munich are ready to rival Arsenal and Manchester City in the race to sign Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix.
According to a report from Fichajes, Atletico Madrid are bracing themselves for a busy summer ahead, with Joao Felix among the players likely to leave the club. The attacker’s uncertain future has already put multiple clubs on red alert as they look to prise the Portuguese away from Wanda Metropolitano.
Arsenal have been already credited with an interest in Felix, along with their Premier League rivals Manchester City. However, it appears the two English clubs are set to face stiff competition from Bayern Munich in the pursuit of the Atletico Madrid frontman.
Bayern’s interest in Felix stems from the uncertainty of some of their attacking players. Thomas Muller, Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry all have their contracts expiring in 2023. While Lewandowski and Muller are given legendary status at the Säbener Straße, there are doubts brewing over the future of Gnabry.
The former Arsenal youngster has been courted by Chelsea, and it won’t be surprising to see him depart Bayern, as the Bavarians are unlikely to meet his demands of earning the same wage as Kingsley Coman or Serge Gnabry.
Speaking of Arsenal, the north Londoners have been listed as a potential suitor for Felix, with Mikel Arteta keen on a new forward after losing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona in January. The Gunners are also preparing for life without Alexandre Lacazette, with talks over a potential extension reportedly coming to a standstill at the moment.
Manchester City, meanwhile, are expected to be in the market for a new frontman after losing both Sergio Aguero and Ferran Torres since last summer. While the Cityzens are reportedly keen on Inter Milan superstar Lautaro Martinez, Joao Felix could be an interesting alternative.
It is no secret that the Atletico Madrid striker is rated highly by Pep Guardiola due to his ability to drift past defenders and offer technical brilliance in the final third. It goes hand in hand with the Catalan’s tactical setup that thrives with a traditional false nine.
However, Atletico Madrid won’t make things easy for the aforementioned clubs in their pursuit of Felix. The Spanish giants had paid a fortune to sign the Portuguese international a few years ago and will look to recoup a majority of that amount, especially as they look to sign a new striker in the summer transfer window.
