Juventus planning approach for Chelsea ace Jorginho

Juventus are considering a player plus cash offer to sign Chelsea’s experienced midfielder Jorginho next summer.

According to a report from Tutto Juve, Juventus are mulling over a move for Jorginho. The Bianconeri are in the market for new midfielders and are willing to table a player plus cash offer in an attempt to sign the Chelsea superstar.

It appears they are willing to sacrifice Adrien Rabiot as a makeweight while offering €20 million in cash. The Serie A giants are aware of Chelsea’s interest in Rabiot, with Thomas Tuchel having previously managed him during their time together at Paris Saint-Germain. It has made Juventus just a bit more optimistic about the deal going through.

Formerly of Napoli, Jorginho has been important to Chelsea’s success under Tuchel. The Italian played a vital role in helping the Blues bag the UEFA Champions League crown last season and was notably voted third in the Ballon d’Or last year, only behind Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski.

However, as Tuchel continues to stamp his authority and tactical setup on the team, the German is favouring a more dynamic midfield setup. It is why the former Dortmund coach is targeting a host of young midfielders like Aurelien Tchouameni heading into the summer transfer window.

It has created a shadow of doubt surrounding the long-term future of Jorginho. The midfielder’s current contract at Stamford Bridge expires in 2023, and at the age of 30, it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will continue to back his powers.

Juventus see this as an opportunity to sign one of the best midfielders in the world. The Bianconeri already enjoyed an excellent January transfer window when they secured Denis Zakaria and Dusan Vlahovic. Zakaria was a smart addition in midfield, but as Arthur Melo and Adrien Rabiot continue to face an uncertain future in Turin, the club could sacrifice one of the two.

Rabiot is the one ready to be offloaded in Juventus’ pursuit of Jorginho. However, it appears unlikely that Chelsea will want to sanction such a swap deal, knowing they can yield a significantly higher value than €20 million and can use the cash to target more in-form players across Europe, such as Marco Verratti.

Rabiot, though, may still end up in the Premier League next season, with the newly-rich Newcastle United reportedly among the clubs keen on his services.
