Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are among the clubs keeping close tabs on Jordan Veretout, who could leave AS Roma in the summer.
According to a report from Roma Today, Jordan Veretout could be set for a move away from AS Roma after the end of the season. The midfielder has fallen down in the pecking order, with Jose Mourinho considering a summer sale. Veretout is already courted by a number of clubs, including Premier League duo Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Part of the Roma side since 2019, Veretout has been a consistent performer for the Giallorossi over the years. During his ongoing two and a half year spell at the club, the player has racked up 114 competitive appearances and was notably an indispensable figure under previous coach Paulo Fonseca, who is currently being linked with Leeds United.
Under Jose Mourinho, Veretout enjoyed a bright start to the 2021/22 campaign. But since the turn of the year, the midfielder has fallen out of favour, with the Portuguese tactician often preferring January signing Sergio Oliveira. As such, the Frenchman has started only one of the last five matches and has now been included in the list of potential departures from Roma next summer.
Tottenham are among the clubs keeping a close eye on the situation of Veretout, as coach Antonio Conte looks to further enhance his options in the middle of the park. The Lilywhites did bring in Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus on deadline day, but the team still lacks depth in midfield, especially with Oliver Skipp struggling with injury during the second half of the campaign.
It has prompted Spurs to scour the market for potential options in midfield. They have been linked with a move for Matheus Nunes recently, but Veretout could prove to be an interesting option as the Frenchman has Premier League experience, having previously played for Aston Villa, albeit rather briefly.
Tottenham, though, are set to face stiff competition from Newcastle United in the pursuit of the AS Roma starlet. Much like the Londoners, the Magpies are keen on strengthening their options in the middle of the park, but to a far greater degree, as they look to flex their newfound financial muscle in the summer.
The report suggests Veretout is valued at around €25 million by AS Roma, which is quite a modest figure for a player of his calibre. However, with Napoli also involved in the equation, it will be interesting to see whether these two Premier League clubs can lure the Frenchman back to English shores next summer.
