Real Madrid prioritising summer move for Aurelien Tchouameni

Real Madrid have reportedly identified AS Monaco star Aurelien Tchouameni as a priority target for the summer transfer window later this year.

According to Fichajes, Real Madrid are preparing to make a move for AS Monaco and France midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni in the summer as they look to reinforce their squad before next season.

Tchouameni came through the youth ranks at Bordeaux, breaking into the first team in 2018. After enjoying a solid breakthrough campaign, the 22-year-old was signed by AS Monaco in January 2020. Over the past two years, the midfielder has grown into an integral part of the team at the Principality outfit.

To date, Tchouameni has made 80 appearances for the Ligue 1 giants, scoring and assisting six goals apiece. Capped seven times by the French national team, he was key to Les Bleus’ triumph in the UEFA Nations League last year.

The midfielder’s rise to prominence in Ligue 1 has not gone unnoticed, with several top clubs across Europe casting admiring glances towards him. Chelsea have had a long-standing interest in Tchouameni, while the likes of Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester United have also been linked with him.

Real Madrid are also serious suitors for the 22-year-old and have made him one of their top targets for the summer transfer window. The La Liga leaders strengthened their midfield unit with the signing of Eduardo Camavinga last summer. The young French ace has struggled for game-time this term, as has Federico Valverde, with Carlo Ancelotti sticking with the trio of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro.

However, with Modric in the twilight of his career and Kroos well into his thirties, Real Madrid need to start planning for the future. Furthermore, Los Blancos do not have a proper, like-for-like alternative for Casemiro in the defensive midfield position, which the management wishes to address in the summer.

Tchouameni has been identified as a top target to strengthen that area. The 22-year-old has proven himself to be a quality operator in the No. 6 role, thanks to his game-reading and ball-winning capabilities. At the same time, he backs it up with a good range of distribution, making him a very attractive target for the Spanish capital outfit.

Tchouameni is contracted with Monaco until the summer of 2024, meaning Real Madrid might have to shell out a significant sum to sign him. Whether they can get the signing over the line or decide to move to alternatives remains to be seen.
