Valencia are reportedly considering a move for Chelsea outcast Kenedy, who does not have any future at Stamford Bridge.
According to El Desmarque, Valencia are in the market for a new winger in the upcoming summer transfer window. One of the players they are targeting is Kenedy, who is currently at Chelsea but has no future at Stamford Bridge. Valencia head coach Jose Bordalas knows the player well and is eyeing a potential move after the end of the season.
Kenedy was recalled to Stamford Bridge in January after the Blues decided to cut his loan spell at Flamengo short. He had made 17 appearances for the Brazilian giants, including a short cameo in the Copa Libertadores final. His performances with Flamengo had notably tempted Leeds United to make a late January loan offer, but the move never materialised.
Kenedy ended up remaining at Chelsea, but he is unlikely to find any game-time under Thomas Tuchel. Despite being a utility man, the Brazilian has no place in the side and is yet to make a single appearance. Even during his overall career at Stamford Bridge, the midfielder has featured in a total of just 27 matches.
Kenedy’s struggles, though, have not deterred Valencia, who are looking for fresh reinforcements in the summer transfer window. The Spanish giants already had a busy January, notably bringing in Bryan Gil from Tottenham, while ex-Barcelona starlet Ilaix Moriba was loaned from RB Leipzig as well. They had also signed Eray Comert and Giorgi Mamardashvili on permanent deals.
However, with Gil set to return to Tottenham at the end of the season, Valencia are preparing an assault on Kenedy, hoping to snap him up in the summer. Jose Bordalas already has a strong connection with the Brazilian, having worked with him during their time together at Getafe.
Chelsea themselves won’t stand in the player’s way, should he opt to put an end to his career at Stamford Bridge. The winger’s current deal in west London expires in 2023, meaning the Blues can still extract a good price in the summer, which could, in turn, be useful as the club brace themselves for a summer of change.
However, Valencia certainly won’t be the only club interested in Kenedy in the summer. Flamengo have already tried to re-sign the Brazilian, and it won’t be surprising to see other clubs joining the chase to sign the 26-year-old, who is prepared to put an end to his misery at Chelsea.
