Atletico Madrid vs Getafe: Preview and Prediction

Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid will host Getafe in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey on Tuesday at Estadio Metropolitano.

Atletico Madrid will be eyeing a spot in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey, while in-form Getafe will look to cause an upset and knock out one of the favourites when the two sides lock horns at Estadio Metropolitano on Tuesday night.

The home team smashed Elche 4-0 in the round of 16 to make it this far in the competition, and they are heading into this fixture on the back of a four-match unbeaten run. Atletico Madrid got the better of RCD Mallorca in their last outing. Los Rojiblancos registered a 2-0 win in their La Liga fixture, and they will be hoping to put on another dominant display against Getafe.

The visitors got the better of Pontevedra CF in the round of 16. Despite going down to nine-man during the course of the game, Getafe secured a 1-0 win. While the Azulones are 14th in the league and not much has gone in their favour, they have been on a solid run of late with four wins and two draws in their last six outings across competitions.

The away side will be confident about their chances heading into this one. The Hard Tackle takes a close look at both teams and tries to predict the tactics they could deploy.

Sorloth might not have been a regular starter in the 2024/25 campaign, but he has certainly made an impact every time he has been handed an opportunity. The Norwegian striker has been involved in 29 games, and he has contributed towards 12 goals in just over 1,300 minutes of first-team action. The experienced forward is expected to start in this fixture, and he could have a big say on the result.

Prediction

Atletico Madrid 2-1 Getafe

Getafe have been unbeaten in their last six outings; they have been quite solid as a unit and will certainly cause problems for Atletico Madrid. But, the home team has enough quality in their squad to get the desired result. While it will be a closely fought encounter, Los Rojiblancos should eventually come out on top. The Hard Tackle predicts a 2-1 win for Diego Simeone’s team.
