Eder Militao was impressive, but Eduardo Camavinga was sub-par as Real Madrid returned to the top of La Liga with a 1-0 win over Getafe.

Real Madrid had dropped to second place owing to Barcelona’s superior goal difference, but they managed to return to the summit with a hard-earned victory. Defender Eder Militao scored the only goal of the game early on in the first half and the defending champions managed to keep the lead intact for the remainder of the game.

Carlo Ancelotti was without his first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois for the game due to an injury. And the Real Madrid decided to make a few changes to rest some of his key players ahead of the game against Shakhtar Donetsk next week.

Star striker Karin Benzema was rested along with the likes of Toni Kroos and Ferland Mendy. However, the Real Madrid manager will be reasonably pleased with the way his players performed on the night.

Here at The Hard Tackle, we run the rule over the Real Madrid players and look at how they performed against Getafe.

Andriy Lunin: 7/10

The youngster was handed a start in place of the injured Courtois, and he did not disappoint. Getafe did not test him too often but he was up to the task when called upon. Overall a solid display, and he finally kept a clean sheet.

Dani Carvajal: 7/10

The Real Madrid right-back put in a composed performance defensively and was effective going forward. Carvajal dealt well with the threat of the Getafe wingers and provided an attacking outlet for his teammates.

Antonio Rudiger: 7/10

The German put in an impressive display at the heart of Real Madrid’s defence. Rudiger kept things simple in the middle and dealt well with the threat from Borja Mayoral. It was the usual no-nonsense approach from the experienced centre-back.

Eder Militao: 9/10

Militao was undoubtedly the best player on the pitch on Saturday. He scored the all-important match-winner and was impeccable defensively. Militao produced five clearances, two tackles and two interceptions as well.

One of his best performances for the club. It will be interesting to see if Ancelotti decides to persist with him in the starting lineup over David Alaba when Ferland Mendy returns as left-back.

David Alaba: 6/10

Alaba started as the left-back in the absence of Mendy. Defensively composed, but the Austrian was not as effective going forward. He tried to create chances for his teammates with his link-up play and one-touch passing but barely threatened in the final third.

Aurelien Tchouameni: 8/10

The Frenchman continues to impress since his move to Real Madrid. He was undoubtedly the best midfielder on the pitch and helped his side control the game. Tchouameni managed to break up play constantly and set up transitions for his side with his long passing.

Eduardo Camavinga: 5/10

The youngster was handed a start here alongside Tchouameni and Luka Modric. However, he failed to impress. Despite possessing bags of technical ability and creativity, Camavinga failed to assert control in the middle of the pitch and was largely ineffective. He looks a much better player than he is coming on as a substitute.

Luka Modric: 7/10

The Croatian midfielder kept things simple in the middle of the park with his passing and produced the assist for Eder Militao’s match-winning goal.

Federico Valverde: 7/10

Valverde started as the right-sided forward and helped create opportunities for his teammates. He also dropped deep from time to time to add more bodies to the midfield and dominate possession.

Rodrygo Goes: 6/10

The youngster was lively throughout the game, but he lacked his usual finishing touch. Rodrygo had a few opportunities to find the back of the net but failed to hit the target. When he did manage to score, the goal was ruled out due to offside.

Vinicius Junior: 8/10

The Brazilian international, the player to watch in our preview, was a constant menace for the Getafe defenders with his flair and pace. Vinicius managed to create a number of opportunities for his side and ultimately won a penalty, which was overruled by VAR.

SUBSTITUTES

Marco Asensio: 6.5/10

Ancelotti brought Asensio on to add some creativity and attacking quality in the final third, and he did just that, producing a solid cameo.

Nacho: N/A

Was brought on too late to make any meaningful impact.

Mariano Diaz: N/A

Was brought on too late to make any meaningful impact.
