Drinkwater steals the show, Terry’s future still in doubt – Chelsea 1-1 Leicester City [Player Ratings]

It was a party atmosphere at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea and Leicester City ended the match in a 1-1 draw on the final day of the Premier League season.

Claudio Ranieri got a rapturous applause from the Chelsea faithful and a warm welcome from Roman Abramovic, who had fired him from Chelsea 12 years back.

Former champions Chelsea had to settle for yet another draw. Cesc Fabregas put them ahead through a second half penalty. However, Danny Drinkwater popped up with a brilliant strike to level things up in the 82nd minute.

Player ratings

Chelsea FC

Thibaut Courtois (6.5/10): Played well after recovering from an illness that kept him out of the midweek game against Liverpool. Made four saves during the match.

Baba Rahman (7/10): Finally looks to have settled into life in the Premier League. Put in a calm and composed performance against Leicester, making eight successful tackles. Also neutralised the threat of Riyad Mahrez.

Branislav Ivanovic (7/10): Another defender who had a good game on the day. Was dominant in the air, and managed to keep Jamie Vardy in check.

Gary Cahill (6.5/10): Was the quieter of the two defensive partners, but came into his own once Ivanovic was taken off.

Cesar Azpilicueta: (7/10): Was largely untroubled on the right flank, and even managed to put in some deadly crosses. Did not look out of place when he was shifted to centre back after Ivanovic was taken off.

Nemanja Matic (7.5/10): Was out of form this season, but had a very good game against Leicester. He sat back and absorbed all the pressure, while Fabregas created all the chances at the other end. Matic even earned the penalty that put Chelsea ahead in the 66th minute.

Cesc Fabregas (8/10): Had an action-packed day on the field. The Spaniard was everywhere – creating chances when Chelsea were attacking, and helping out in defence when his side was pegged back. Played four key passes and made four successful tackles in the game.

Eden Hazard (6.5/10): Was not as effective as he has been in the past few matches. Seems to have gone back in his shell once again.

Willian (6/10): Played more of a supporting role to Fabregas in the game. Looked more comfortable operating on the wings instead of down the middle.

Pedro (6.5/10): Almost put Chelsea ahead with an early strike, but was ruled offside. Had a decent time on the pitch, making three successful dribbles before being taken off.

Bertrand Traore (6/10): Looked out of sorts in the game, and failed to make any impact. Needs more experience to deal with difficult games like these.

Substitutes: Loftus-Cheek (6/10); Abraham (6/10); Tomori (5.5/10)

Leicester City

Kasper Schmeichel (7.5/10): Had to be alert throughout the game in order to keep Chelsea out of the Leicester goal. Made some brilliant reflex saves in the game.

Christian Fuchs (6.5/10): Put in a calm and composed performance, keeping Willian/Pedro/Hazard quiet on his flank.

Wes Morgan (7/10): Became the third player in the history of the Premier League to play every minute of the season. Combined well with Wasilewski to keep Chelsea out for most of the game.

Marcin Wasilewski (5.5/10): Was often bailed out by the experienced Morgan. The Chelsea attackers exposed his lack of pace during the game.

Danny Simpson (6.5/10): Kept things quiet on the right flank. Even managed to make a last ditch tackle on Traore to keep the scores level in the first half.

N’Golo Kante (8/10): Was his usual consistent self, working hard in midfield to foil Chelsea’s attempts. Made an incredible 10 successful tackles during the entire game.

Danny Drinkwater (8.5/10): Scored a wonder goal to boost his chances of an England call-up for the Euro 2016 squad. He contributed in defence too, making six successful tackles during the game.

Damarai Gray (6/10): Had his moments, but was kept quiet by Azpilicueta for most parts of the game. Great future prospect for Leicester.

Andy King (6/10): Had a quiet game at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Failed to make any sort of impact, and was substituted at half time.

Riyad Mahrez (6.5/10): Played well in flashes, but was mostly ineffective during the game. Was dispossessed four times on the right flank.

Jamie Vardy (6/10): Was not at his usual best. Was mostly kept quiet by the Chelsea backline, which is why he failed to catch up to Harry Kane for the Golden boot award.

Substitutes: Schlupp (7/10); Okazaki (6/10); Albrighton (6/10).

Terry’s future still in doubt

The Chelsea captain delivered an emotional speech after the end of the match on Sunday. This could be the last time we see John Terry the player at Stamford Bridge, as he is yet to sign a new deal with the club. Chelsea have offered Terry a new one year contract on Friday.

However, Terry has said that he will take his time to mull over the deal, as he says that it will give a slightly different role to him from next season on. The new Chelsea deal is set to halve Terry’s current wages at Stamford Bridge, according to reports.

The Chelsea captain is said to have much lucrative deals from China waiting in the pipeline, and it will be interesting to see whether he chooses to stay with his boyhood club or whether he opts for the big money move.
